Saving space in your machine: The Top 3 Benefits of Helical Gearboxes
Many people believe servo motors can only be paired with planetary gearboxes. However, this is a myth. Servo motors can be paired with gearboxes using helical gearing as well. Here are the top 3 benefits of using helical gearboxes with servo motors.
Benefit 1: Mounting flexibility.
Many gearboxes with helical gearing allow you to pick from a variety of housing styles and output options. Choose from foot mounted, flange, tapped holes, or torque arms. Output options can include shaft, hollow shaft, bushing, or shrink rings. By being able to utilize more than just a shaft, you can eliminate belts, pulleys, chains, couplings, or flanges. Not only will this save you money, but you’ll also be able to save critical space in machine design and eliminate pinch points to improve safety.
Benefit 2: Higher output torques.
Helical gearboxes can generally provide more output torque than traditional planetary units, meaning you don’t have to upsize to a larger gearbox.
Benefit 3: A wide range of output ratios.
Many planetary gearboxes are limited to 100:1 when it comes to ratios. Helical gearboxes allow you to choose from a much wider range of output ratios without adding another stage of gearing. Adding gearing stages takes up valuable envelope space.
STOBER offers inline, offset and right angle helical options with a variety of mounting and output options to fit whatever your application requires. These units can handle ratios up to 552:1, or you can combine a helical unit with a planetary and achieve ratios up to 2,242:1. Our helical units run quieter than planetary units. Plus, we can provide a variety of coatings or even offer a hygienic stainless steel option.
